Enabling and Using Passwordless Sign-in with Microsoft Authenticator app

Enable Passwordless Sign-in Option on Microsoft Authenticator App

This guide will walk you through first enabling the passwordless sign-in option in your Microsoft Authenticator app and then using the passwordless sign-in option in your browser.

Passwordless Sign-in is only a feature for signing into applications in your browser. This will not replace using your password to sign-in to your computer.
  1. Open Microsoft Authenticator Options

    Open Microsoft Authenticator and Select your account from the list
  2. Enable Phone Sign-In option

Select "Set up passwordless sign-in requests"

  1. Continue Setup

Select Continue:

  1. Number Verification (Step 1)

Remember the Number Verification that shows on the screen:

  1. Number Verification (Step 2)

When prompted enter the number from the previous step and select Yes:

  1. Passwordless Sign-in is Enabled

You will now see that your account has been enabled for Passwordless Sign-in:

  1. Sign in Prompt

On next sign-in select "Other ways to sign in" as seen below:

  1. Number Verification

You will now be prompted via the Microsoft Authenticator app going forward instead of being asked for a password:

  1. Switch back to password

You can also switch back to your password by selecting Use your password instead.

  1. Enter Password

You can now sign in using your password. To switch back to using the Microsoft Authenticator app, select Use an app instead.
