Remote Wipe Using Intune

Shannon Obanion Updated by Shannon Obanion

1. Sign in to Microsoft Intune

2. Select the Device

  • In the left-hand navigation menu, go to Devices > All devices.
  • Find and select the device you want to wipe.

3. Initiate the Wipe

  • After selecting the device, click on Wipe from the device actions options.
  • You’ll see two options:
    • Wipe Device, but keep enrollment state and associated user account: This keeps the device enrolled in Intune after the reset and keeps the user account, which can be useful for redeploying the device.
    • Wipe device, and continue to wipe even if device loses power: This performs a full factory reset, removing all data, settings, and accounts. If chosen this could cause an issue with reimaging later so only select this if the device is lost or stolen.
    • If you don't select an option and just select wipe it defaults to a full factory reset which erases all data on the device.

4. Confirm the Action

  • After wipe is submitted. Intune will attempt to send a wipe command to the device.
  • The device will receive the command when it’s next online and perform the reset.

5. Monitor the Wipe Status

  • You can monitor the status of the wipe in Intune by going to Devices > Monitor > Device actions or by selecting the device and checking its status.

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure any important data is backed up or has been offloaded if necessary, as this process cannot be undone once initiated.
